Hellboy (Columbia, 2004), Mike Mignola - Statue and Church Ruins Concept Sketch Original Art (2002). Gothic decay looms behind the altar in the opening sequence of the film. Mignola's concept sketch distills decay into something ominous, his bold lines and heavy shadow carving ruin into myth. Statues like this one appear throughout the film, as many scenes are set atop previously sacred spaces, ley lines, and other ancient religious sites. Drafted in ink over graphite on paper with an image area of 7" x 9". Signed and dated by Mignola in the image area. Exhibits light handling. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions.
