Aurora Scotch Lassie (420-98) Model Kit Complete Case of 36 (Aurora, 1956). Produced in 1956, Aurora's
Scotch Lassie model kit reflects the company's early emphasis on figure subjects rooted in cultural and folkloric themes during the formative years of the American plastic model industry. Depicting a woman in traditional Scottish attire, complete with kilt and period dress, the kit aligns with mid-century interest in Old World romanticism and international costume subjects, a category that played a meaningful role in early hobby modeling before science fiction, monsters, and licensed properties came to dominate the market. Issued during Aurora's rapid expansion in the 1950s,
Scotch Lassie stands as an example of the company's broader creative range prior to its later specialization. This offering consists of a complete case of thirty-six individually boxed kits, all housed in their original shipper. Condition reporting applies primarily to the individual boxes, which show mild wear overall, including light scuffing and small dents along the edges, mild scuffing and crushing at the corners, and light scuffing, creasing, and some surface compression on the box faces, particularly on examples still sealed in tight factory cellophane. The shipping case itself shows heavier wear from handling and storage but remains structurally sound. The shipper has been opened, and the individual kits vary, with some still sealed in original cellophane and others opened due to torn cello; however, all kits appear unused and complete. As a complete-case survival, this lot offers rare insight into mid-1950s hobby retail and distribution, preserving the scale and context in which Aurora kits were originally sold. Early Aurora full cases are seldom encountered, especially from this pre-licensed, pre-genre-dominated era of plastic modeling. For collectors of vintage figure kits, early Aurora production, or postwar American hobby culture, this
Scotch Lassie case represents a historically grounded and visually distinctive snapshot of the company's earliest creative ambitions.
