The Honeymooners (CBS TV, 1955-1956), Showtime 1985 Re-Broadcast Animation Cels. Group of (9) original animation cels and sketches for introductory and interstitial sequences created for the 1985 re-broadcast of the so-called "Lost Episodes", a previously unseen cache of early episodes of
The Honeymooners, consisting of (5) full-color hand-painted production cels depicting different animated sequences including Ralph Kramden (Jackie Gleason) and Ed Norton (Art Carney) hanging from a fire escape; Kramden, Norton, and Ralph's wife Alice (Audrey Meadows) arguing at the dinner table; Kramden walking by and preparing to dive into an open manhole; and Kramden screaming in frustration, each ranging from 7.5" x 9.5" to 12" x 10", with 2- matted under plexiglass inside wooden frames ranging from 10" x 12" to 16.5" x 13.5", (3) preliminary animation drawings completed in graphite and colored pencil, with 1- measuring 8" x 10.75" inside 15" x 18" light gray mat and text in pencil reading, "REVEALING TITLE 'THE HONEYMOONERS' beneath a drawing of Kramden on his knees with his hand raised, 1- 12" x 9" drawing depicting Kramden kneeling before a dusty chest, with colored pencil marking to bottom reading "50%", inside a 18" x 15" light gray mat, and 1- 16.5" x 13.5" unmatted sheet of paper with an illustration of Kramden and corresponding Hex code numerical notations, and (1) dual-matted preliminary sketch and production cel featuring Kramden with an inquisitive look on his face and standing in a spooky attic, with each component measuring 11.5" x 8.5" inside a 29.5" x 13.5" light gray mat. Items exhibiting age and handling from production use yet remain clear and vibrant, especially the production cels, overall offering a unique look into the animation process. As well, the animated sequences created for this broadcast were the only pieces of animation related to Jackie Gleason throughout his career, thus adding a layer of scarcity to their existence.
