Hellboy (Columbia, 2004), Mike Mignola - Abe Sapien Concept Illustration Original Art. A haunting early vision from Hellboy co-creator Mike Mignola, this atmospheric concept sketch captures the eerie containment chamber housing Abe Sapien, the amphibious psychic ally of Hellboy. Rendered in bold inks and stark shadows, Mignola's signature style evokes the quiet, unsettling mood of the B.P.R.D. headquarters as it would later appear in Guillermo del Toro's 2004 film adaptation. Dated 6/24/02 and signed by the artist, this piece offers a rare glimpse into the development of one of the film's most memorable scenes when Abe Sapien (Doug Jones) recovers in his tank following a near-death underwater encounter with the demon Sammael. Ink over graphite and blue pencil with an image area of 10" x 7.5"; framed to 12.75" x 15.25". Exhibits light handling. Unexamined out of frame. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions.
