The Rolling Stones-Related Beat Group Competition Liverpool, UK Flyer (1963). An important vintage paper flyer promoting the first ever edition of the UK's Lancashire and Cheshire Beat Group Competition, taking place at the Philharmonic Hall, Liverpool on Friday May 10, 1963, with 1st prize a highly-sought-after Decca recording contract, the flyer measuring 5.25" x 8.25" folded. In what has become an important episode in popular music history, the judging panel for this Beat Group Competition included Dick Rowe of Decca Records, and George Harrison of the Beatles. It was here that Rowe personally apologized to Harrison for not signing the Beatles to Decca when they had the chance in January 1962. Harrison accepted the apology, and in return suggested to Rowe that he sign to Decca an exciting young group from London called the Rolling Stones. The rest is history. Provenance: Originally in the collection of Bob Wooler (1926-2002), the stage manager of this 1963 event, and Compere and DJ at Liverpool's Cavern Club from 1961-1967. Exhibits minimal handling and toning to the paper edges. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions.
