Few images from the angst-driven teen films of the 1980s capture the heart and spirit of the era as vividly as that of Lloyd Dobler (John Cusack), standing before his 1977 Chevy Malibu, arms raised and boombox aloft, clad in his signature oversized trench coat. Accompanied by Peter Gabriel's "In Your Eyes", this unforgettable moment became one of the most enduring and romantic scenes in modern cinema - a tableau endlessly referenced and reimagined across pop culture, from The Simpsons to Deadpool 2. Offered here for the first time, this screen-used trench coat represents the definitive symbol of late-1980s cinematic romance. Constructed of khaki gabardine wool with notch lapels, two slash pockets, and double-button cuff straps, the coat retains its satin lining and a launderer's tag marked "93-52", likely dating from during or shortly after production. The garment shows expected production wear including stains, toning, minor holes, and soiling consistent with on-set use. Accompanying the coat are several studio-copied pages of staff and crew lists from February and March 1988, printed on 20th Century Fox letterhead, exhibiting handling wear. The ensemble originates directly from a prominent crew member who received the coat following filming. Given the film's modest budget, it is possible this was the only trench coat used during production.
