Brainstorm (MGM/UA, 1983), Original Computer Interface Headset. Original prop computer interface headset from Douglas Trumbull's science fiction thriller Brainstorm starring Natalie Wood, Christopher Walken, and Cliff Robertson. In the film, researchers develop technology allowing physical, emotional, and sensory experiences to be recorded from the wearer of specially designed headsets. Constructed of a white fiberglass headpiece with black foam lining and extensive electrical wiring to exterior, creating the look for one of the science fiction brain scanning devices. Electrical components include an array of capacitors, resistors, diodes, and censors connected to multi-colored electrical wires and thread down the back to a length of cable ending in an XLR output. Small stickers labeled with handwritten notations are present throughout the headset. Sensors to the temple area of the headset contain small red on/off lights that remain untested. Headset is mounted to a custom chiseled fiberglass head form with adhesive. Entire display is framed inside of a custom-built clear acrylic display case measuring 10.75" x 14.75" x 10.75", with each side bound together with flathead screws and with a clear plastic carrying handle to top. All enclosed inside of an original custom-built wooden transport case with metallic hinges and toggle latches, measuring 13" x 13" x 17", and retaining original shipping stamps to exterior. Headset exhibits expected signs of production use, handling, and age, including signs of stray airbrushing and scuffs to the fiberglass, with acrylic display exhibiting some scuffs and scratches. Wooden transport box showing some wear to the wood particularly at the extremities, oxidation to the metallic latches, and remnants of prior shipping stickers. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions.
