The Dick Van Dyke Show (CBS TV, 1961-1965), Carl Reiner "Alan Brady" Signature Toupee Hairpiece. Vintage original toupee constructed in a distinct partially balding pattern and mounted to a woven hemp headpiece for display. Stored in a brown shoebox with inscription on the inside lid reading, "For Paul, Hope you never need to wear this! Love, Carl Reiner". Measures 8.5" x 6" on form. Reiner's character Alan Brady was the high maintenance, egocentric and toupee-wearing star of the show-within-a-show,
The Alan Brady Show, for which Rob Petrie (Dick Van Dyke) is the head writer. Alan's hairpieces play a central role in Season 5, Episode 1, "Coast-to-Coast Big Mouth", in which Laura Petrie (Mary Tyler Moore) accidentally reveals on live television that Brady wears a toupee. Her apology to him later yields Brady's famous line, "Fellas, there's the little lady who put you out of business" as he commiserates with the group of toupees on his desk. Exhibits signs of age and wear.
Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions.
