The Anthem Sprinters: A Comedy in Two Acts, including (1) 99-page (as paginated) playscript dated August 1967, bradded and bound to yellow wrap with handwritten "Carmichael / B. Byles" at the top, and personal inscription reading, "Bobby! This copy with friendly affection from Ray Bradbury / Spring- Summer- Autumn 1967" in green marker, and (1) 97-page (as paginated) playscript labeled "Final Final Version" and dated January 31st, 1968, with revision pages dated February 8th, 1968 that include handwritten revisions, bound with an olive green hardcover with cover page containing personal inscription reading, "Bobby! With great admiration from his friend Ray Bradbury Nov. 1967" in green marker. Accompanied by 54-additional unbound pages including several with handwritten blocking directions for the play, and 34-additional loose pages for one version of the playscript, 3-single page cast sheets for the performance of the play at The Pandemonium Theater Workshop Company and Robert Bushnell Productions, 1-letter to "Bobbie" discussing new pages for the play, signed "Ray" in blue ink, 1-headshot of Bobby Byles, and 1-original manila transmittal envelope from delivery of these items. Bradbury originally wrote
The Anthem Sprinters as a short story before being rewritten into a play that play selectively throughout 1968. Bobby Biles played the character Carmichael during these performances. Items exhibit expected age and handling, with corner bumps and edge creases present on many inner pages and water stains to select few. Both olive green hardcover and yellow wrap on scripts contain small black smudges.
