Description:

Peter Bogdanovich Condolence Letter to Mrs. Boris Karloff, with Clipping. Peter Bogdanovich, director of Karloff's last great film, Targets (1968), dated this handwritten letter February 9, 1969, one week after Boris's death. He wrote in black ink on 6.5" x 7.0" stationery: "Dear Evie, We thought you'd like to see these clippings - in case someone else hasn't already sent them. Love from Polly, Antonia and me - Peter." The lot includes an eloquent tribute to Karloff written by Bogdanovich and published in the Los Angeles Times, as well as the original envelope, postmarked Feb. 10, 1969, with Bogdanovich's return address sticker and the two 10-cent airmail stamps. As with the other letters of condolence, Mrs. Karloff placed a small check mark beside the return address; she also wrote the word "called." The letter, envelope and clipping are in Excellent condition. From the Boris Karloff Estate Collection. Accompanied by a Letter of Provenance from Sara Karloff Sparkman. Accompanied by James Spence Authentication auction LOA.
