Description:

Jimi Hendrix Owned and Worn Jacket. Transforming Rock and Roll and leading the psychedelia movement, Jimi Hendrix managed to affect entire generations in his short 27 years. This ultra-rare jacket that saw Hendrix at his best was given to his noted best friend Mike Quashie, New York's "Limbo King." Hendrix often sought refuge in Quashie's Manhattan apartment. In August 1970 (less than a month before his death) Hendrix prepared to leave for London. Before departing he entrusted to Quashie two trunks of wardrobe. This black wool jacket is among those items left with Quashie 38 years ago. The piece reflects Jimi's flamboyant sense of style and his penchant for bolero-style jackets with elaborate designs. Gold metallic appliqué in intricate symmetrical formations cover the jacket. Gold trim on the left cuff displays fraying, consistent with Jimi's left-handed guitar playing. Repeated friction against his Stratocaster has left its mark. The wear remains, despite the cuff's repair, and bears testament to how much Hendrix valued the jacket. This extraordinary piece of the Hendrix legend is in overall Very Fine condition, supplemented with a well-documented provenance. An incredible find. Accompanied by a notarized affidavit from Mike Quashie as well as a New York Times article on Mr. Quashie's Hendrix-owned pieces.
