Description

Boris Karloff Negatives from Arsenic and Old Lace. On January 10, 1941, Boris Karloff made his Broadway debut in Arsenic and Old Lace. His role was mad Jonathan Brewster, a killer transformed by a drunken plastic surgeon to resemble... Boris Karloff! The play was one of the most successful in American theatre history and Karloff fondly remembered Jonathan as "the happiest role of my life." This lot includes three 4" x 5" negatives from the original production: one of Karloff and Edgar Stehli (as Dr. Einstein) making their entrance; another view of this entrance, this one including Josephine Hull and Jean Adair (as Aunt Abby and Aunt Martha); and a third of Karloff and Stehli menacing Allyn Joslyn (as Mortimer). Excellent condition. From the Boris Karloff Estate Collection. Accompanied by a letter of provenance from Sara Karloff Sparkman.
