The Graduate Script, Signed by Set Decorator George R. Nelson. This lot features the March 15, 1967, 176-page working script for The Graduate, the personal copy of the film's set decorator, George R. Nelson, who has signed the script's cover. Number 17 on AFI's Greatest Movies of All Time list, The Graduate skirted some potentially disastrous casting decisions (Doris Day as Mrs. Robinson, Burt "Robin" Ward as Benjamin, Patty Duke as Elaine, etc.) to win an Academy Award for Best Director for director Mike Nichols, Academy nominations for Dustin Hoffman, Anne Bancroft, and scriptwriters Buck Henry and Calder Willinghan, and claim a piece of popular culture. Reading the incredibly witty script is almost as fun as watching the film. Script cover has stains (one running across the middle initial in George R. Nelson's signed name) but interior pages are very clean; in Very Fine overall condition. See in cold print the timeless line, "Mrs. Robinson -- you are trying to seduce me. (weaker) Aren't you?"
