Description

Christopher Lee Handwritten Condolence Letter to Mrs. Boris Karloff. This is a moving piece of iconic horror film history - Christopher Lee's handwritten condolences to Boris Karloff's widow. Written in black ink on pale blue, 6.5" x 8" stationery and dated February 5 -- three days after Karloff's 1969 death -- the letter reads in part: "My dear Evie...The affection and the admiration that I felt for Boris were and always will be boundless. From the days when I was a small boy he was always my favorite and he always remained so...He was wonderfully kind to me and he will always be very much in my heart. As the world knows he was a superb actor - and those of us who knew him and felt for ourselves his kindness, gentleness and humor will always be greatly privileged. I pray God I can follow his example...My love to you, Christopher." Included is the original stamped envelope, postmarked London 5 Feb. 1969, which Lee had marked "Personal" in the return address. Mrs. Karloff wrote "Christopher Lee" in the return address area and, as with her other condolence letters, placed a small check mark beside the name. Both the letter and envelope are in Excellent condition. A very eloquent testimony to Karloff as man and actor, from fellow horror film royalty. From the Boris Karloff Estate Collection. Accompanied by a Letter of Provenance from Sara Karloff Sparkman. Accompanied by James Spence Authentication auction LOA.
