Dr. Seuss Condolence Letter to Mrs. Boris Karloff. One of Boris Karloff's greatest late-in-life triumphs was his narration of Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas, first telecast December 18, 1966. This letter of condolence to Mrs. Karloff after Boris's death is typed on Dr. Seuss' 7.25" x 10.5" pale green stationery, dated February 7, 1969 (five days after Karloff's death) and reads: "My dear Mrs. Karloff: Please do not think of answering this letter. Please, only, know how much I admired your husband. Working with him on 'How the Grinch Stole Christmas' was a privilege, an honor, and the experience will be an inspiration to me always. Sincerely," and is signed "Dr. Seuss" in green ink. Included is the original envelope, postmarked San Diego, Calif. and dated February 7, 1969, with "Dr. Seuss, The Tower, La Jolla, California" printed on the back and its two 10-cent airmail stamps. Mrs. Karloff, filing the letter, had written "Dr. Seuss" in the envelope's return address area and placed a check mark beside the name. Both the letter and envelope are in Excellent condition. A wonderful memento intimately related to two phenomenal talents and a beloved Christmas TV tradition. From the Boris Karloff Estate Collection.
