Description
Ronald Reagan Handwritten Letter to Glenn Ford (1981). A one-page handwritten letter on White House stationery, from then-President Ronald Reagan to Glenn Ford. Postmarked May 4, 1981, the letter was written slightly more than a month after John Hinckley's failed assassination attempt against him, and the script is clear and largely clean, though it does appear shaky in some places. (The President's staff was eager for him to appear to be recovering quickly -- so much so that he signed a piece of legislation the morning after his operation, despite being on morphine. All in all, he did not lead a Cabinet meeting until Day 26 of his recovery, did not travel beyond Washington until Day 49, and did not hold a press conference until Day 79.) It reads: "Dear Glenn, Thanks very much for your note & generous words. I'm feeling fine and even surprising the Dr's, which makes me feel even better. Nancy sends her love & again thanks. Sincerely, Ron". The letter and its mailing envelope are in Very Fine to Excellent condition with some mailing creases, and have been matted and framed along with a set of 20 memorial postage stamps to an overall size of 13" x 23". From the Glenn Ford Estate. Accompanied by a COA from PSA/DNA and a letter of provenance from Peter Ford.Heritage Auctions provides detailed information when available but strongly encourages in-person inspection.
