Description

Theda Bara Wig. "I have always been a charlatan," said Theda Bara of her own stardom. Indeed, few actresses in the history of cinema so magically transformed themselves as did Theda, whose self-creation as "the vampire" made her one of the movie's first true superstars. This wig was part of her alluring artifice, a brown hairpiece that survives in four parts: top piece, tendrils, and two small curls, all undoubtedly applied by Theda for maximum "vamp" effect." The item was especially created for Theda by her mother, a professional wig maker. The wig was among the tools of the trade for the star of A Fool There Was, Cleopatra and Salome, and Theda Bara still owned and preserved this wig late in her life, when she personally gave it to the consignor not long before her death in 1955. In Very Good condition. From the Joan Craig Costume Archive of Theda Bara. Accompanied by a letter of provenance from Joan Craig.
