Laurel & Hardy Signed Letters of Agreement to Hal Roach Studios (1936). A pair of one-page letters of agreement between the comedy team and the studio, both on studio letterhead. The first is a letter to Hardy dated October 6, 1936, in which the studio exercises a one-year employment option, signed by Hardy in black ink; the second is to Laurel and dated October 10, 1936, acknowledges receipt of a cash advance, and is signed by Laurel in blue. It was with Roach that they made their classic series of short films and their first few features; however, by 1936 their relationship with the studio had become strained by artistic differences, and by 1940 they had severed ties with Roach entirely. A rare set of documents from a pivotal time in the team's career, the letters are in Very Fine condition with fold creases, mild wear, and toning.
