Sidney Howard Signed Contract. An accomplished and prolific American playwright and screenwriter, Sidney Howard became the first person to win both a Pulitzer Prize (for Drama, They Knew What They Wanted, 1924) and an Academy Award (for Best Adapted Screenplay, Gone With the Wind, 1939). He was also the first winner of a posthumous Academy Award - in August of 1939, Howard died on his Massachusetts farm, crushed to death by his tractor, six months before the Oscar ceremony. This two-page contract, dated December 5, 1935, employed Howard to write an outline continuity for the movie Dodsworth (1936), for which he was also Oscar-nominated. The contract is signed on the second page by Howard in black fountain ink and is in Very Fine condition with some rusty staple marks to the top edge. Accompanied by a COA from PSA/DNA.
