Frank Gorshin's Riddler Costume from the First Episode of Batman (1966). This eyeball-bruising green plaid two-piece suit was worn by Gorshin as the nefarious Riddler in the debut episode of the classic camp TV series, "Hi Diddle Riddle" (airdate January 12, 1966; part two, "Smack In the Middle," aired the following evening).
The episode marked Gorshin's first appearance in the role; he would go on to portray the classic villain in the 1966 feature film as well as in seven more episodes of the series. (He was replaced by John Astin during the second season.) The character became one of Gorshin's signature roles.
The suit was custom-tailored by Ernie Tarzier of Hollywood, and it has tailoring tags labeled "Frank Gorshiner [sic] September 1966" sewn into both the jacket and pants. Original villain costumes from the series are quite rare and highly desirable; this one-of-a-kind suit is in Excellent condition.
