Description

Louisiana Hayride Placard for a March 19, 1955 Show. Elvis made his debut on the Louisiana Hayride in October 1954, shortly after his first and only appearance at the more staid and traditional Grand Ole Opry. The Hayride was more accepting and suitable for the young rocker, and Elvis quickly became one of its regulars -- and a rising star. His television debut, a local broadcast of the Hayride, was just a few weeks before the March 19, 1955 show that has Elvis listed after Flatt & Scruggs, Little Jimmie [sic] Dickens, and Archie Campbell, all established Country acts. This 14" x 19" poster, straight from the owner of the Hayride (Dave Kent), is in remarkable condition, an artifact from Elvis' early performing years and a reminder that his rise to unprecedented celebrity had modest beginnings.
