Description

Buddy Ebsen's Personal Script for the First Episode of The Beverly Hillbillies. A genuine piece of Hollywood television history, this is the original script for The Beverly Hillbillies, inscribed "My Personal Script - Buddy Ebsen" in black ink. The script, which covers the Clampetts' move from the Ozarks to Beverly Hills after discovering $25 million worth of oil on their land, was eventually titled "The Clampetts Strike Oil" and was telecast September 26, 1962. The script features many pencil annotations by Ebsen and screenwriter's exposition on the major characters (e.g., regarding Elly May: "...she is also a real tomboy, completely unaware of the fabulous body with which nature has endowed her"). The show, of course, was a mega-hit for CBS, running until 1971 and tallying up a grand total of 274 episodes. All the major characters appear in the script, as well as Bea Benaderet's Cousin Pearl, and movie fans might be intrigued to learn that TCM host Robert Osborne appeared in this episode as "Jeffrey Taylor," Mr. Drysdale's young assistant. In Excellent condition with the Filmways TV Productions address and telephone number on the cover. Back page annotations include notes regarding chickens, a pig, and an outhouse! An historic piece from the star of one of TV's most all-time popular and beloved shows. This is the only time Buddy's personal Beverly Hillbillies scripts will be made available to his fans, with none held in reserve. From the Buddy Ebsen Estate.
