Description
Elvis Presley Sun 45 Group of Five (Sun, 1954-55). This extraordinary group includes pristine copies of all five records that Elvis recorded on his first label, Sun. Signing Elvis to Sun resulted in a dilemma for the frugal owner, Sam Phillips. Elvis' success meant greater numbers of record pressings, heretofore done in Memphis. Sam determined that he could get greater numbers of records released and shipped in a given period of time, and save money on shipping in the process by utilizing a second Sun pressing facility in Los Angeles. All five of Elvis' Sun recordings were pressed simultaneously in Memphis and at the Monarch Pressing Plant in Los Angeles. Three of the five copies offered here were pressed at Monarch, verified by a distinctive, small triangle followed by a five-digit number in the run-out, not present on the Memphis-pressed records. Again, the Monarch pressings are vintage, produced at exactly the same time the Memphis copies were pressed. Recordings by other Sun artists, notably Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, and Roy Orbison, were also pressed simultaneously in Memphis and Los Angeles.
We've never seen a set in such nice condition as these! Included are "That's All Right"/ "Blue Moon of Kentucky" (Sun 209 Memphis Pressing, 1954) in NM 8; "Good Rockin' Tonight"/ "I Don't Care If the Sun Don't Shine" (Sun 210 Monarch Pressing, 1954) in MT 9; "Milkcow Blues Boogie"/ "You're A Heartbreaker" (Sun 215 Memphis Pressing, 1955) in MT 9; "Baby Let's Play House"/ "I'm Left, You're Right, She's Gone" (Sun 217 Monarch Pressing, 1955) in NM 8; and "Mystery Train"/ "I Forgot to Remember to Forget" (Sun 223 Monarch Pressing, 1955) in NM 8. A truly remarkable collection!
Sun sleeves like the ones accompanying these copies were produced after Elvis' releases
