Description
Jimi Hendrix Owned and Worn Gypsy-Style Vest from the Collection of Stevens Weiss, Hendrix's Attorney. A stunning, heavyweight brown velvet and gold silk brocade vest with two hook and loop-style closures, several pockets, and numerous tiny mirror appliqués among detailed and decorative stitching. This vest was worn by Hendrix in February 1969 (and almost certainly previous to that). Weiss had flown to London for the Royal Albert Hall concerts and backstage before one of the two shows, Stevens mentioned how much he liked this vest. Hendrix immediately took it off and handed to him as a gift. Their relationship was created on a business level, but it evolved into a close friendship on a personal level. At this point in his life, Hendrix had moved back to London after a year in the US and The Experience had been touring Scandinavia, Germany, and France. These two Royal Albert Hall concerts, February 18 and 24, were the last European dates that Hendrix, Redding, and Mitchell would ever play together. The vest is in generally fine condition with signs of wear and a couple of cigarette burns. When this vest was brought to your cataloguer, a life-long Hendrix fan who was a senior in high school when he passed on, I had to show it some of my colleagues (we sometimes do that around here). Several of these people were considerably younger than me and every single one of them was in absolute awe to view and (carefully) touch a vest that had been owned and worn by the greatest Rock guitarist to ever live. One of them said, "Well, who isn't a Hendrix fan?" How true is that! Just think how cool it would be to own this piece of Rock history. Then think how impressed your friends will be when you show it to them. Don't miss out on this one. Comes with a letter of authenticity from Marie Weiss.
