Description

Gone With the Wind Screen-Used Arm Chair. Rhett Butler's infamous declaration, "Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn," is the number one movie line of all time according to the American Film Institute. When Rhett delivered those final words to Scarlett O'Hara in the 1939 epic Gone With the Wind, the two were flanked by a pair of sumptuous chairs on either side of the doorway to the Butler home. The arm chairs were also used as head chairs in the dining room sequences. Heritage is proud to offer one from that set of screen-used chairs from the beloved epic. Embodying the rich massive style of Rhett Butler's Reconstruction-era estate, the arm chair measures 63.5" x 26.25" x 22" and is in Very Fine condition with some nicking, minor decorative loss, and separating of decorative joints. Originally acquired from the historic MGM auction of props and wardrobe, the arm chair was subsequently displayed in the rare book store Heritage Book Shop (not affiliated with Heritage Auctions) in West Hollywood. Accompanying the lot is a New York Times article on Heritage Book Shop referencing the chair and its inclusion in Gone With the Wind, as well as images of the piece in the film. Hard to imagine a more desirable artifact from the classic film, and this one directly reflects the iconic imagery of Gone With the Wind and Rhett's infamous last words to Scarlett. An incredible piece of film history.
