After the loss of their child (born with severe disabilities, and who lived only three days) and her split from Chaplin, Mildred began an affair with the Prince of Wales and married two more times before her premature death. She also acted in over 130 films (ending her career in bit parts), and this superb 11" x 14" close-up photograph from Cecil B. DeMille's Fool's Paradise (1921) reveals Mildred Harris in her heyday, showcasing both the flamboyant glamour and the heartbreaking eyes of this sadly forgotten star. Very Fine condition.

Daisy and Violet Hilton Signed Album Page. Few Hollywood sagas are as strange as that of Daisy and Violet Hilton, Siamese twins who were featured in the notorious Freaks (1932) and starred in Chained for Life (1951). The ladies signed this 3" x 5.5" card "With best wishes from Daisy and Violet Hilton Feb. 11. 1933," which dates this signature to one year after the disastrous Los Angeles preview of Freaks. Performing in both their films with dignity and charm, the Hiltons, after various show business ventures, eventually faced poverty. At the time of their 1969 death, Daisy and Violet were employed by a market in North Carolina where, so the account goes, one worked the cash register and the other bagged the groceries. Marjorie Main 11" x 14" Photograph by Clarence Sinclair Bull. Historians and collectors usually associate the name of Clarence Sinclair Bull with his sumptuous glamorous portraits of MGM's most alluring stars. Was Marjorie Main alluring? Well...no, but she certainly had character, and Bull captures her delightful, no-nonsense personality in this 11" x 14" portrait from Bad Man of Wyoming, a 1940 MGM feature in which Marjorie appeared with Wallace Beery. The picture presents Marjorie in "lady blacksmith" attire, and the verso has Bull's stamp and a typed caption. A wonderful study of the actress who later became Hollywood's "Ma Kettle." Excellent condition.

Ken Maynard Autograph on his Cowboy Stationery. The rise and fall of cowboy star Ken Maynard (1895-1973) is the stuff of Hollywood legend - a stalwart Saturday matinee western hero who rode his horse "Tarzan" and whose real-life excesses soon blackballed him out of the movies and and into a circus act. Whatever one thinks about Maynard, he surely had impressive stationery! "Ken Maynard Fist National Western Star" reads the red letterhead; there are two photos of Maynard and a sketch of Indian teepees on the front; also, six pictures of Ken and "Tarzan" on the verso, along with a drawing of an Indian headdress, etc. The letter, return-addressed "Hollywood Calif" and dated November 6, 1933, reads: "Dear Mr. Souto: Please convey my best wishes to 'Cinearte' and its readers for a very Merry Christmas. SIncerely, Ken Maynard." The star had left First National Studios by this time and was on contract to Universal, but there's little wonder he saved and still used this colorful stationery to impress the fans. Some staining, especially along the bottom crease, and someone has written the number "7" and circled it at the bottom (this could be matted out). Desirable form for a classic Western Star! Very Fine condition.
Tim McCoy Autographed Picture. An outstanding 11" x 14" inscribed and signed matte finish portrait of legendary cowboy star Tim McCoy (1891-1978). Mabel Normand Letter with Great Content Requesting the Name and Telephone Number of a Bootlegger! A silent screen superstar seeking a bootlegger -- what could be more evocative of Hollywood's Roaring '20s? Here's a handwritten-in-pencil, two-page note, in which Mabel asks her secretary for "the address of Freeman's bootlegger -- I mean the one you deal with for me and also his telephone number..." Mabel goes on to write that she'd had "very bad news" about her right ear, signs off with a reminder to send the bootlegger's address and "...most important (his telephone number)," initials the note and adds, "Be happy Betty I love you." Excellent condition. This is an endearing little letter, handwritten by "the Female Chaplin" with a very desirable reference to the Prohibition era.
Two of Mabel Normand's Photos of Tragic "Bathing Beauty" Marie Prevost. Few Hollywood tragedies were more grim than that suffered by Marie Prevost, who basically starved to death in 1937 -- so pitiful a demise that it sparked the full activation of the Motion Picture Relief Fund. Her nearly-starved dog shared her apartment with her, and had nibbled on the corpse. Included are two remarkable pictures from Mabel Normand's collection, each showing Prevost at her loveliest during her Bathing Beauty days for Mack Sennett. The first is an expansive, superbly atmospheric shot of Venice Beach, California, with Marie sitting on the sand as Ben Turpin comically collapses as a life guard. The film crew and camera equipment appear in this wonderful shot. Normand's secretary (presumably) had written on the verso in pencil, "Taken at Venice, the beach about which I have written you before. The girl is Marie Prevost no longer with us." The second shot shows a full gaggle of Bathing Beauties, with a life-saver bearing the legend "Mack Sennet Comedies," and features a charmingly mugging Prevost along with Phyllis Haver (prominent, casting a fishing line) and Kathryn McGuire -- all identified on the reverse in pencil. Both photos are glossy, with only minor creasing and a tiny tear on the right margin of the shot with Haver, and otherwise in Very Fine condition.
Mabel Normand Personal Photos. A charming shot of Mabel and her dog steals the show in this 12-shot packet. The dog obviously loved the camera as much as Mabel did -- there are six pictures of the pup, two with Mabel, who clearly doted on him/her. Also in the lot are six evocative shots of location shooting, including two showing a squad of cameramen (one with a director and a megaphone). All in Very Fine condition.
Two Photos of Mabel Normand. Here's Mabel Normand as she surely would have wanted her fans to remember her: pretty, wistful, and happily assured (or so it seems) in her star power. Picture one shows Mabel adorned in feathers; picture two presents her in bonnet, pearls, and a white mink coat. Both have the stamp of photographer Edwin Bower Hesser en verso. Both are in Excellent condition with a one-inch scratch near Mabel's left eye, visible only if held in a certain light, on the second photo.
Telegram and Letter by Mabel Normand. This lot includes a telegram and a letter to Miss Betty Coss, Mabel's secretary. The telegram, dated June 19, 1924, writes "Dear Betty Don't be a baby and come tomorrow morning and lets [sic] talk things over... do not think at this time should take any offense at whatever I said will expect you in the morning it is very urgent," and signed "M Normand." The letter, written in hand by Mabel, asks Betty if she remembers the terms offered Mabel for a job with "Consolidate" studio, regarding a salary and percentage deal and whether she'd have to work on Sundays, a brief response to which is written by Coss on the back in pencil, in which she hints for more pay and better hours from Normand. The note mentions Paul Bern, and that since Bern could not remember the proposed terms, he had suggested that Mabel ask Betty. Mabel ends with "Thanks so much we miss you M Normand." Handwritten note is tattered on the right margin. The correspondence suggests a rift had taken place between the star and her secretary -- indeed, Betty Coss had left Mabel's employ after the stormy repercussions of the star's various personal problems. These are intriguing curiosities from a time that Mabel was fighting to revive her scandal-wracked career.
Maureen O'Sullivan 11" x 14" Photograph Group of 3. Best-remembered as Jane in the classic Tarzan epics, Maureen O'Sullivan (1911-1998) spent a decade at Golden Age MGM, proving herself one of the studio's most beautiful and versatile actresses. This lot features three 11" x 14" photographs of Ms. O'Sullivan, including two from David Copperfield (1935) and one from Sporting Blood (1940). Excellent condition.
George Pal Autograph. A 3" x 5" postcard signed by the Legendary director in black ink. In Excellent condition with mild tanning. Accompanied by LOA from PSA/DNA.
Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks Autographed Album Page and Picture. They were the King and Queen of Hollywood, onscreen and off, in the late 1920s. Mary Pickford (1892-1979) and real-life husband Douglas Fairbanks (1883-1939) ruled the early cinema colony from their "Pickfair" estate high in Beverly Hills. They were founders of United Artists Studio and the Motion Picture Academy. They were the first stars to place their hand and foot prints in the Grauman's Chinese Theatre forecourt. Fairbanks was the host of the first Academy presentation...Pickford won the Academy Award for Coquette (1929)...indeed, their claims to cinematic fame are literally too numerous to mention here. This lot celebrates these early superstars and includes a 4.5" x 5.5" light green album page, signed by both PIckford (in blue ink) and Fairbanks (in black ink); each has also added the year 1928. The page is uninscribed and the almost-89-years-old signatures amazingly clean, with only a minor horizontal fold through the "Sincerely" that prefaces Pickford's signature and a tiny tear (no paper missing) at the bottom left. Added to the lot is an 8" x 10" picture (taken from a book) of Fairbanks and Pickford, both in full-bloom, co-starring in The Taming of the Shrew (1929). The powerhouse couple separated in 1933 and divorced in 1936, breaking the hearts of many movie fans, but their legacy as Hollywood pioneers (Pickford received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Academy in 1976) is lasting and undiminished. This is true vintage movie history, in Excellent condition.

Vincent Price Telegrams and Photo. As most last-minute correspondences and invitations were sent via telegram in the '40s, Vincent Price received, and saved, many from his famous friends. Included in this lot are telegrams from Clifton Webb, Danny Kaye, and George Cukor (inviting Price to a party honoring Tallulah Bankhead). Also included is a 6" x 8" headshot of a young Price by noted UK theater photographer Houston Rogers, with his studio stamp en verso. In Very Fine condition with typical yellowing to telegrams due to age and crease marks due to storage.
Vincent Price Telegrams from Orson Welles and Photo Included is a fascinating 1937 telegram to Price from Orson Welles and John ("Jack") Houseman -- though they take on the surname "Mercury," after their co-owned Mercury Theatre. The message reads, in part: "We think you are crazy if you don't play Hammon and so do you" (referring to the role of Master Hammon in the Mercury's production of The Shoemakers' Holiday). Price would agree to take on the role a few months later, and would see it through its 69 performances at the Mercury. Also included are two additional, subsequent, and quite personal, telegrams from Welles to Price thanking him, complimenting him, and sending his love. In addition, telegrams from other actors, and members of Welles notorious theatrical group, the Mercury Players, are included in this lot; all from 1938 and sent from the likes of Lillian Gish, Agnes Moorehead and husband Jack Lee, Lynn and Alfred Lunt, and John Houseman. A gorgeous b&w 8" x 10" portrait of young Price is also included. (Notice the barely-visible, yet villainously raised right eyebrow, and his slight smirk!) All are in Very Vine condition with typical yellowing to telegrams and photo due to age, and crease marks on telegrams due to storage.
Vincent Price Correspondence and Photo. In 1937, Vincent Price starred in his second play The Lady Has a Heart, in Broadway's Longacre Theatre. Prior to the performance, Price received the correspondence included in this lot -- most notably a letter from the play's producer Rufus Phillips, regarding the potential casting and other issues with play. In addition, telegrams were sent to Price from his many friends, most of them famous, wishing him luck with the play's debut. Included among these telegrams are best wishes from actor Harry Ellerbe, dancer Irene Castle, singer Peg LaCentra, and actors Jack and Agnes (Moorehead) Lee. Also included is a Polyfoto portrait of Price from that time period. In Very Fine condition with mild to moderate wear and tanning.

Stuff Smith and Cozy Cole Signed Jazz Window Card, plus Claude Hopkins Signed Jazz Window Card. Stuff Smith was one of the first great Jazz violinists, and he was a brilliant musician who has been tremendously underrated. Cozy Cole, who has also signed this window display card, is regarded as one of the greatest drummers Jazz has ever produced. He helped propel such bands as Cab Calloway, Lionel Hampton, and Louis Armstrong to fame. Cozy Cole recorded a million-selling record, Topsy, in 1958. This card is signed by both Stuff Smith (twice) and Cozy Cole, and it should be noted that Cole has signed "Cosy Cole", making this his rarer, earlier signature. Pinholes at corners do not detract from this rare piece. Claude Hopkins led one of the best swing bands of the early 1930s. All the white bands that came through New York City envied his ensemble. Hopkins, born in 1903, got his first taste of fame as the intermission pianist at the well-known 52nd Street Jazz Club, Jimmy Ryan's. The innovative pianist had a long and successful career. This card, done over a purple background, shows the leader as well as an artist's rendition of his whole band, and Claude has signed the card on his image. Pinholes at corners would matte or frame out. A rare signature. Accompanied by COA from Jazz & Big Band expert Larry Rafferty.

Fleetwood Mac featuring Peter Green Handbill, Gardens Auditorium Vancouver (1969) It was the near the end of an era for Fleetwood Mac, the exciting blues-based power band featuring guitarist and singer Peter Green. The band, huge at home back in England, but only marginally popular in the States, was working through the last leg of their 1969 North American tour by the time of this Canadian gig. Opening for the band was Spring, the girl-vocal group fronted by Brian Wilson's then-wife, Marilyn. Green appeared on just a few more dates with the Mac before retreating to few lost years of drug-fueled madness, and more changes awaited the band with new arrival Christine McVie. A mustached Green stares out the sepia-toned photo adorning this rare handbill, which measures 5.5" x 8.5". In NM- condition.
Grateful Dead "Frankenstein" Signed Avalon Ballroom Concert Poster, FD-22 Third Printing (Family Dog, 1966) Artist Alton Kelley added his distinctive signature in pencil to this famous poster. A very clean NM copy, featuring vivid yellow inks. Approximate size is 14 1/8" x 20 7/16".
Grateful Dead/ Jefferson Starship Vietnam Veterans Benefit Moscone Center Concert Poster (Bill Graham, 1982). John Sebastian/Poco/Frank Zappa Berkeley Community Theatre Concert Poster (Bill Graham, 1970). A rather generic-looking poster for two diverse shows in Berkeley. First up, former Lovin' Spoonful frontman John Sebastian and Poco pair up for a cozy, Country/Folk style concert on Sunday, April 12, 1970. The following week, a more eclectic show featuring Frank Zappa, New York City streetpunk band Hot Rats, and rock/blues crooner Boz Scaggs (fresh from his stint as lead guitarist for the Steve Miller Band). A little something for everyone! The poster measures approximately 13.5" x 20.25", and is in NM- condition.
