Description:
Buddy Holly Signed Royal Theatre Contract (1957). This stunning document, a rare signed contract from the too-brief career of Buddy Holly, engaged the Rock and Roll pioneer and his backing band, the Crickets, for a weeklong series of performances at the Royal Theatre in Baltimore, Maryland that commenced on August 9, 1957.
The contract is dated July 24, 1957 -- very early in Holly's professional career. He had been dropped by Decca Records a few months earlier, and subsequently picked up by both Brunswick Records (with the Crickets) and Coral Records (as a solo artist) -- which put him in the unusual position of having two recording contracts at the same time. The week after these shows Holly and the Crickets would play their historical shows at the Apollo Theater in New York, and three months later the Crickets' debut album, The "Chirping" Crickets, would be released.
The single-page standard agreement is signed by Holly in blue ink, and is in Very Fine condition with a small piece missing from the top left edge and two light fold creases. A fantastic, one-of-a-kind document. Accompanied by James Spence Authentication auction LOA.
